handing your shit-talking older brother's ass to him
by five minutes in your first triathalon:
priceless
so one year after being brow beaten, shamed and bribed (they payed my entry fee) into competing in the annual tolland, connecticut sprint triathlon with my older brother and a group of his friends, and their friends and co-workers and wives, the moment of truth finally arrived this morning.
kicking off at the crack of eight o'clock am, when i am not usually awake in the first place, right into the crisp 59 degree water. (if it was one degree colder, the swim would have been totally called on account of it being too cold.) in the end, i was first out the water and first overall from our little group of eight. final results of the whole race here. some guy from upstate new york won, and a bunch of women and men with 12+ years on me crushed my time.
but as a kitschy incentive my brother printed up a couple custom t-shirts at work for the first place guy, first girl and fastest transitions. for being fastest among this rag-tag group, i got a slick multi-panel jersey with the above james t. kirk graphic. it's gonna be hard to top that as a highlight of the summer, and it just began!
i did politely decide against lighting up a cigarette at the finish line. i mean, i am a self congratulatory d-bag, but i'm no asshat. |

one of the best things i've ever done with my art is donate to this school for autistic children in dublin last year. i just got this message from the organizer about this year's event:
Hi All,
Last year you gave your support to a the Achieving Art Exhibition in Dublin, which
supports a school for children with autism set up and funden by parents. Because it
was so successful we are having it again and are hoping you can take part.
If you are interested please mail me back so we can start it off again
